Jon Gosselin 2.0

Introducing Jon Gosselin 2.0.

He’s gone from the resort cruising, chick schmoozing, bachelor pad choosing reality show dude to the poor, misunderstood, everyday guy who was abused by his vicious, evil stepmother while his stepsisters…

Ooops. Wrong story.

Here’s the deal, Jon-boy:

A Five Point Eulogy for Bob Novak

I didn’t know Bob Novak personally. I did, like most people, develop some perceptions of him over the years.

So, here’s the deal:

  1. I admired his passion for his work. Whether I agreed with him or not, I always got the feeling he believed what he said.
  2. I always thought he was an egotistical bastard.
  3. He made an egregious, unforgivable error when he outed Valerie Plame. Outing any active, undercover operative of any U.S. intelligence agency is a morally and ethically reprehensible act, and he should have been indicted for it.
  4. I feel a little sorry for him, because his ego ultimately got him played by the Bush Administration.
  5. He forgot the Prime Directive of his profession: Never let yourself become the story.

Doesn’t This Just Make You Proud To Be An American?

Things like this make me wonder if the country is worth saving.

Just disgraceful.

My Memories of Walter Cronkite

I have two very vivid memories of Walter Cronkite from my childhood. The first is his announcement that JFK was dead. The second was his voiceover narration of the CBS documentary The Twentieth Century, which was a Sunday evening staple in our house. I can still hear that authoritative, you-can-take-this-to-the-bank voice of his giving you the facts about World War II, or life behind the Iron Curtain, or whatever the topic of that week’s broadcast was.

I’d like to hear from some of you about your own memories of Walter. Please leave a comment and fill me in.

The Other Michael Jackson

I watched a clip on The Michael Jackson Channel (formerly CNN) Sunday. They were interviewing a young woman who was on the verge of tears because she might not get a ticket to the memorial service at the Staples Center. “He meant so much to me,” she said in a thin and anxious voice.

I sat there for a minute, resisting the urge to Read more »

Jon and Kate Go Home

I wasn’t going to write about Jon and Kate Gosselin. It seemed to be old news. Kind of dying down on its own and being pushed off the front page by the recent Wave of Celebrity Death. I thought Jon and Kate would just drift out of the spotlight and deal with their problems in private.

I was wrong. Read more »
