Breaking News For Seniors: You’re Being Played

Hey. AARP crowd. You’re being played.

Are you really stupid enough to believe that the government is going to fiddle with your end of life decisions? Are you dumb enough to believe that Senator Charles Grassley is anything except your run of the mill, truth twisting politician? Do you really believe he gives a rat’s backside about you or your problems?

Here’s the deal: There is a way you can lose in this health care debate. But, it’s not the way you think. The fact is: you are breaking the backs of those of us who still work and pay taxes. The fact is that Medicare and Medicaid and Social Security are all government programs paid for by taxpayers. The fact is, if there isn’t health care reform to get health care costs under control, the tax money is going to run out and these wonderful programs you believe you are entitled to are going to dry up and blow away like so much dust in the wind.

You all need to listen up. Your families aren’t going to go bankrupt for you. Because they can’t. They have children of their own and mortgages to pay and college to pay for. Your best–and maybe only–bet, is that this health care reform bill gets done and gets done in a hurry.

Easy for me to say?

Not really. I worry about being a burden on my children every single day. I worry this reform won’t pass because of all the lies being told about it. Then what are my options, exactly? Bankrupt my family?

I don’t think so.

This situation is death panel in reverse. Except you are a panel of one, faced with a life or death decision no one should have to face. All because you let Charles Grassley and all those other “caring” politicians scare you. All because you are too lazy or too naive to read the health care reform bill for yourselves.

You need to stop thinking only of yourselves for a minute, and realize you don’t live in a vacuum. You can believe that death panel crap if you want, but don’t count on me to bail your collective backsides out.

Because I can’t. Because I have children and a mortgage.

Here’s another little news flash for you: I’m in my mid-fifties, with more gray hair every day, and I refuse to let the likes of Charles Grassley and his insurance and health care lobby cronies scare me out of doing what’s good for me and the rest of the folks my age and older.

It’s time for the over fifty crowd to grow up and stop acting like a bunch of scared two year olds.

Time to show some guts, fellow gray hairs. Get yourselves on the wagon to reform this health care system once and for all.
