The Prosecution Train Keeps Rolling
That light you see at the end of the tunnel is a train. Moving full speed toward you. It doesn’t know you’re there, and it doesn’t care. It’s job is to keep moving. You didn’t set it in motion. You don’t even know where it’s coming from. But, it’s coming. Straight at you while you stand on the tracks and hope it goes away.
Like the Obama Administration is hoping the Bush Administration’s dubious activities will go away.
With the revelation that Dick Cheney ordered the CIA to withhold information from Congress, the saga of how the Bush Administration subverted the law takes another serious turn. For the Obama Administration, this revelation raises the stakes to the point where it will be almost impossible to look the other way.
The deal is this: Now there is proof that the former Vice President ordered the CIA to be less than forthcoming to Congress. He did so in a manner that puts him on the ragged edge of legality. But, he did so just the same.
Things have now come to a point where there are only two logical ways the Obama Administration can go:
-
Finally tell the American people that there is going to be no investigation of the Bush Administration, no matter what is uncovered, or
-
Order the Justice Department to open a full investigation into the activities of the Bush Administration and prosecute any wrong-doing they find.
The Obama Administration is standing square on the tracks. The train isn’t going to stop, and it’s getting closer by the minute. Sooner or later, the Administration is going to have to yield to the train, or get smashed to pieces because it failed to do so. Either way, the train’s just going to keep on rolling.
